In a small study with 60 patients with irritable bowel syndrome (DDW abstract 374), the response rate to a Low-FODMAPs/Normal gluten diet was as effective as a Low-FODMAPs/Gluten-free diet. Both diets were more effective in reducing abdominal symptoms than a normal diet. According to Lin Chang, MD: “The beneficial effect of low FODMAPs does not appear to be predominantly due to gluten avoidance.”
